Was this stupid of me?

I turned 18 back in April and I still live with my family.  Safe to say, I am not moving out anytime soon with the economy how it is and the fact that I know how expensive living on your own is.

That said, I was out shopping with my mom and little sister the other day and we ended up in Ross because the store we were in didn't have a bathroom and my sister had to go.  So, point is, we started browsing and I ended up in the homegood isle... where I think I might have went a little crazy...

I bought a 24 piece drinking glass set [which is super nice by the way!  I was excited : ) ] and a 3 different sized glass baking pans.

I was really excited to get this stuff and I really have no clue why, but oh well, it made me happy so I got it.  When I got home, I showed my family.  They looked at me like I was crazy and asked me if I was planning to move out anytime soon.  I told them that no, I wasn't planning on it, but that I know I would these things eventually, and that they were a good price and quality so I bought them to put away.  They still looked at me like I was crazy.

Later I asked my mom why everyone was looking at my funny and she said, "Most people your age don't buy things like that and they don't get excited over them".   Hmm.. oh well, I can't help it if I'm not the "average" 18 year old.

So, what do you guys think:  Was my family looking at me like I was a nut job because I bought these things period OR because I bought these things at 18?  And, did any of you start buying things for your future home when you knew it would be a couple years before you moved?

I think they looked at you funny because of your age. Most 18-year-olds don't think of the future, they think moment to moment. But good for you to be so mature! It will help you get through life easier with a good head on your shoulders.

I was the same way and have been told I turned out pretty well. LOL! And buying home goods makes me giddy too.

Nah... I just think you are getting yourself ready, lol! I still go kinda excited when I get to buy something for the house or kitchen!
I think it is great that you can stay with your parents cuz you are right... it is hard right now!

Get excited all you want honey!!! There is no mold to being normal!!!
Hugs to you!
