Stopping Animal Suffering.

I am a huge animal lover.  Dogs, cats, snakes, birds, killer panda bears.. it doesn't matter what they are, I love them all.  While most of us are now looking at the wild animals who are going into extintction, we forget that animal cruelity is still happening here, right now.

I signed up for the PETA newsletter one day about a month ago.  And, I just got an email from them this morning.  And, here's what it said,
"Right now, inside the laboratories of the University of Utah (the U), dogs and cats—just like the wonderful animals who share our homes—are being subjected to painful, invasive, and often deadly experiments. Will you please work with us to stop the suffering of all animals in need by making an online donation right now?"

I'm not going to post the full email, because it is pretty long, drug out with evidence about how many animals were killed, how they died, etc.  If anyone wants to read the full newsletter, please leave me a comment with your email address and I will forward the newsletter to you.

This is a snapshot I took from the newsletter, sharing the story of the chocolate lab named Remington.

Here is a video I found on the PETA website regarding the same article. It brought tears to my eyes it so horrific.  NOTE: WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK.  THIS IS NOT A VERY NICE VIDEO.
I found the video here.  You can read the article here.

If you would like to help, you can make a donation to PETA.  To make a donation, you do have to sign up to be a "PETA member", which only means recieving their newsletter once a month.

You can make a donation here.

(I cannot get my name to automatically stay out of the boxes since I received the link through my email, but you can just delete my name and email address.)

Review: This is Why You're Fat by Jackie Warner

This is Why You’re Fat is by Jackie Warner, a no-nonsense celebrity fitness trainer.

Jackie says that no food is off limits! That with her program, you will actually be adding food to your diet in order to lose weight. She also says that it is ok to cheat. That if you eat within your dieting range during the week, and then you can indulge in whatever you want over the weekend! Jackie also says that it is not fats that is the enemy, but sugars. She says that with her program, you can learn to control your sweet tooth.

This is Why You’re Fat’s first three chapters tell you why you’re fat. It explains the chemistry, the sugar problem, and the 3 organs in the human body that can make you either skinny or fat. The second part of the book (chapters 4-6) tell you about Jackie’s 2 week Jump Start program that can help get you and your body on the right track. And, then part 3 (chapters 7-10) teaches you about the exercises you should do to stay healthy and fit.

I like the book tells you to keep a food journal and an exercise log. When I keep a food journal, it really helps me to keep track of my intake numbers. It is really amazing how the calories, fats, and sugars add up. Actually looking at the back of food packets, it can amaze you with how much some of the regular foods we eat are worth in fats and sugars.

Easy to read, and easy to understand.  If you want to lose weight, you might want to try this program out!

Review: Foxy by Pam Grier

Foxy is by Pam Grier, an actress. It is a memoir of her life in “Three Acts”.

I think it is pretty cool how there are sections in Foxy that have pictures of Pam growing up. The first picture is one of her at 3 months old. You can tell the picture is older and has gone through a lot of hands, the copy looking crinkled, taped, and dirty. The pictures themselves share a story with readers, one of the pictures even being a copy of an old postcard Pam had received at some point in her life.

I love how honest the writings are. If it were me, I certainly would not be publishing a book about my whole life with all kinds of personal secrets out in the open for everyone to see. It is one thing if you read a rumor in a magazine; you could push it off as embellished, false, etc. But, coming from your own mouth, wow, Pam Grier is seriously honest, and I give her a lot of credit for that.

Memoirs are always fun to read, as long as they aren’t about depression, sexual abuse, etc… They usually almost always include some good laughs. Pam’s book sounded really honest and down to earth. It was cool to read.

Review and International Giveaway: Mel's Bells Cloche Hats

Mel's Bells Cloche Hats have a nice assortment of hats, all crafted from the highest quality of natural fiber yarns.  They also carry headbands too, if that is more your style.

A lot of the hats have colorful flowers attached to the side by a large safety pin, allowing the flower to be removable if the wearer wishes so.  But, if you know you want to keep the flower in place, then you can ask Mel at the time you are purchasing the hat to permanently sew the flower on.  That's what I did with the hat I received to review.  I asked Mel to permanently sew it on, and she was very nice about it.

I received the Adult Size Slouchy Beret in Slate Gray with Removable Pink Flower to review.  As soon as I opened my package, I was in love.  Let me start by saying that I have never in my life been a hat person.  I'm just not.  My sister can pull off any hat she wants to wear, but my head was just not made to wear hats.  At least, that's what I thought until I tried the slouchy beret style.  Apparently, I've been wearing the wrong kind of hats my whole life.

I really looked at the flower of this hat, looking for which strands of the flower's yarn Mel used to attach to the hat.  I couldn't find them.  I mean, you can obviously see that the flower is securely attached, but it is very neat, not at all messy.

The pick flower has bits of orange and a touch of a deeper pink, really bringing it to life.  The hat itself hits comfortably and securely on my head.  And, while it is not a heavy material, the yarn does make you warm, so keep this baby in hand when fall and winter roll around again!

Mel also has a new line of hats specially designed for the warmer wheather.  They are made out of organic cotton and colored with low-impact dyes, so they are better for the environment!

If you want to keep up with the latest info and styles with Mel, then here are some social sites you can follow Mel at:  Facebook, Twitter, her blog, and Myspace.

Review: Urban Decay Primer Potion

I am a complete makeup junkie.  I will spend quite a bit of money when it comes to good quality makeup, as long as I get enough of it, or course!  Anyways, I hate when my eyeshadow creases or practically runs off my face.  I can't stand it.  Touching up my makeup almost makes it look worse and it looks like I have no eye makeup on after it runs.  Plus, we all know who unattractive those creases can be..

I bought some eyeshadow primer a few months back and use it every single time I put my makeup on.  I got Benefit's Lemon aid.  It really is awesome.  It lasts forever, helps with the creasing and is a color corrector too (you know, when you put your makeup on and it doesn't look like what you thought it would?).  Anyways, I thought Lemon aid was great.  THEN, yesterday (my birthday) I treated my myself to a little un-needed makeup shopping at Sephora.  I found an Urban Decay mini of the Primer Potion for $9.  Sephora is super good about returning, so I figured if I didn't like it, I would just take it back.

I have always wanted to try this product.  I never bought it because it is $18 and I don't like the wand shape (it's crooked).  But, I always wanted to try it because almost every time I would watch a makeup tutorial, they would use this product.  They would swear by it.  Everyone calls it a miracle product.  Of course, I didn't believe this!  My Lemon aid is great and all, but after a few hours there is some creasing.  I wore my Urban Decay out tonight.  Well, let me first say that I put my makeup on about 3 hours before I left the house. And then another 3 or so hours until after I got home.  Oh My Goodness!  IT IS A MIRACLE PRODUCT!!  I have NO creasing at all!  I did a triple take in the mirror, I was amazed!  This stuff seriously works.  I went online 10 minutes after looking in the mirror and ordered a regular sized bottle of this stuff.  I'm not yet sure how long it will last (you don't have to put much on at all), but I say it is personally worth it.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product!

**I purchased every item stated with my own money that was not acquired from blogging.  My opinions are 100% my own unless stated otherwise.  I did not get paid for this post.  I posted this to share a product that I really enjoy using.**

Email Subscription

I just wanted to make a small note for everyone who uses email subscription to blogs:  I had an email subscription already on my blog, but I was notified that it didn't always work.  I now have a new email subscription box that does work.  If you like to read the blogs you follow that way, or whatever the reason, feel free to subscribe.  This is only for your ease.  This will not, and has never been, counted for an extra entry for giveaways of mine.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know, that if you had previously signed up, you will now need to do so again so that you will receive the email.  But, obviously, you do not have to, and that it will not count against you for giveaway purposes.  Oh, and it is in the same exact spot as the old email box used to be!

Thanks!

Mother's Day Reminder and Gift Ideas!

If you haven't remembered yet this year, then let me remind you: Mother's Day is next month!  It is May 9th (a Sunday).  So, don't be one of those people who forgets and scrambles to get a gift at the last minute.  I still do not know what I am getting for my own mother this yet.  It's difficult because she always gives me a crappy list, and her birthday is the month before. So, I will chose the best item she lists as her birthday gift, then get stuck with the what-the-hell-do-I-get-her-now thoughts.

If I don't know what to get my own mother, then I certainly can't tell you guys what to get for your moms.  That's like the blind leading the blind or however that saying goes.  But, I can toss you guys some suggestions.  I am always looking around online, shopping, chatting, etc., and I have run into a lot of cool shops.  I might not know what your mothers are into, but I think it's safe to safe I'll probably ring a couple of bells for some of you.

The giveaways I host always have you guys (the readers) in mind.  Some of the giveaways going on right now, or about to come up very soon, are things that your moms might want.  Jewelry, books, clothes, etc.  If you don't win these things, you are at least seeing the shops and thinking "hmm.. I think my mom would like that" or "hmm.. I think my mom would like something like that", hopefully.  Anyways, I just wanted to get your brains working so you aren't left scrambling at the very end.  Start thinking about what you are going to get or do for your wonderful mother!!

Here are some ideas/prices/stores/etc that your mom and my mom might like:

Lisa Marino's Artefx Etsy shop.  Has gorgeous pearl watch/bracelets with matching earrings, necklaces with matching earrings, etc.  The watch bracelet show is $50 plus shipping and handling and is called "Black Sea Fresh Water Pearl Bracelet Watch".  (Watch for my review + giveaway of this to be popping up within the next few weeks.)

QACreate Etsy Shop (giveaway + review link are posted on the left hand sidebar).  This is for Steampunk lovers.  $49.99 + S&H, this is called the "Industrial Heart Steampunk Pendants and Necklace".  QACreate has cuff links, rings and pendants.

Raindrop Earrings from xelainea's Water In The Sky Etsy shop.  These go for $10 plus S&H.  item link.  Affordable handmade rings, necklaces, earrings, and more.  All very cute and feminine, and a great price if you are a tighter budget.

You can custom order from VistaPrint.com wall or desk calendars that allow you to use family photos.  One calendar is only $13 plus S&H!

I will post more ideas and pictures as time goes on, but for right now, there are a few ideas to get you started!

Review and Giveaway: Creatrix Designs

Creatrix is a jewelry shop on Etsy.com filled with adorable handmade pieces created and designed all by the own, Shannon.

About the creator:
Most of my life, my artist outlet has been music and singing. Attempts at painting and knitting and other tangible arts were short lived and frustrating, until I came upon beading. My first real introduction to it was in 2006 at a birthday party. The birthday woman had her party at a bead shop and the activity was that we were all to make a piece of jewelry.
The woman who owned the store helped us finish the pieces, assembling the clasps and such. It was a year later that I started making jewelry during a week long 'staycation.'I didn't have enough money to 'go somewhere' so I went to a craft store that was having a moving sale. I'm not sure what prompted me to invest in jewelry tools and beads, but I did. I proceeded to spend the next week, morning to night, making jewelry. I was hooked! It was during that time that I started my Etsy shop, back in October of 2007.

It wasn't until much later that a childhood memory came to me of sitting with regular pliers and wire cutters and 'fixing' my grandmother's jewelry. She noticed at some point that I was actually putting things back together so she started giving me pieces to work on. I recall enjoying tremendously going through her drawers of chains, earrings, broaches and necklaces and piecing them together. I still love to make things out of 'found objects.'

I am drawn to the substantive nature of jewelry. It's solid and sturdy. I love that people have been trading beads and adorning themselves with jewelry since forever! My hope is to develop as an artist and create a distinctive line that is immediately recognizable. I'm still very much in the process of developing that, as I have only in the last few months really focused more on developing myself as a jewelry artist.

You can keep up with Shannon's latest designs by following her blog here and becoming a Facebook fan here.

My review:
Shannon sent me a gorgeous Celtic Bracelet to review.  Here is what it looks like:

As you can see, the bracelet is very dainty and feminine.  The colors can be very year round (they can pass for Fall, or Spring colors, etc.)  The clasp is very easy to secure and has not came undone once since I started wearing it (I've worn it for a few days).  While it looks very dainty, it also very secure.  At first, I was afraid that if I accidently hit it on something that it would break.  But, it actually really sturdy.

I really like this bracelet.  It can go from casual with my jeans to a bit more fashionable when night hits.  The only thing I might be able to say that might put some people off from buying this bracelet is the size.  I have a relativly small wrist, meauring at approximatly 6 1/2 inches, allowing the bracelet to fit me perfectly.  Unfortuntly, if you have a bigger wrist than I do, the bracelet will not fit you.  Since the jewelry is handmade, however, it might be possible that Shannon can add links to this bracelet if you really want to buy it! (I'm not sure, but you can always ask.)   Overall, I love this bracelet!  Super cute and feminine with prices you can afford.

Giveaway Time!

Review: Nacho Mama Tees

Nacho Mama Tees is the sister site to Crazy Dog Tees.  They offer both mens and womens shirts.  Nacho Mama Tees sells offensive tees, funny tees, cheap shirts, 80s shirts, cool shirts, movie shirts, and vintage shirts.

Their cheap shirts are the tees that are on sale.  They seemingly all range at $14.44 and vary in catagory.  Some are offensive, some are funny, etc.

Their funny tees are outrageously hilarious.  Don't believe me?  Check out the funny tees page here and go laugh your ass off at some of these shirts.

Have I mentioned they also have hoodies?  Yep, they do!  They are made out of 100% cotton and only $17 bucks your hard earned cash will get you one of these hoodies (plus shipping and handling obviously..).

Nacho Mama Tees sent me the Paddy's Pub shirt to review.  It is actually a men's shirt, but the sleeves are not overly long, so I can pull it off as an everyday shirt for myself.  It's super soft, and just incredibly cute!  It also runs at only $21 in case you want to pick one up for yourself, a friend, or your boyfriend, etc.  Here is what my tee looks like:

Even though this is a mens shirt, it does not have an exsessivly boxy cut to it.  The sleeves don't fall to my elbows, etc.  You girls know what I mean!  Don't you hate when shirts just look manly on you?  Nacho Mama's tee, while it is a men's tee, and will look like a men's tee on a man, can also be wore by a woman without it looking to big.  (Obviously just get a size or two smaller than you would if it were a woman's shirt you were ordering.  I received my shirt one size smaller than I would normally get, and it fits great.)

**I received a complementary shirt from Nacho Mama Tees in order to write a real and honest review. I did not get paid for this post. All opinions are my own, unless otherwise stated.**

Review: Crazy Dog Tees

From novelty t-shirts and crazy offensive t-shirts, to just plain funny shirts, Crazy Dog Tees has it all. They offer the best funny t-shirts, unique novelty t-shirts and stylish cool t-shirt designs. You can also buy vintage funny t-shirts online from theor HUGE selection of funny t-shirts!

Bill, at Crazy Dog Tees, has been super nice and agreed to send out a shirt from both Crazy Dog Tees, and Nacho Mama tees (their sister site) for me to review.  From Crazy Dog Tees, I chose the Leprechaun tee.  Take a look at how cute it is:

It is a great material for summer, suuper light weight.  The sleeves are not capped, which I like, but not too long either.  Just a perfect length for a feminine tee.  Really soft material too.  The picture above does not do the color of the shirt justice.  It is way more vibrant.  Here is a better picture of the tee's color:

The shirt is womens. No unisex shirts here, so the fit is great; curve hugging goodness.  I hate when I order shirts and they don't fit the way I want shirts to fit.  Then you have to go through the whole send-the-item-back-and-wait-for-what-feels-like-forever deal.  It's just a big unwanted hassle.  But, these shirts fit great.  As long as you look as the size chart and make sure you properly measure yourself, there is nothing to worry about.

The shipping was fast.  At first, there was a small mix up with the mailing and I did not receive the shirts.  When I inquired about this, they apologized, saying the order got mixed up and that they would send them out.  It was no biggie.  The shirts got to me in about 3 days after that!  Talk about fast service.

I will definitely be ordering from them again.  And, I hope when I do, that I do not go overboard with the spending!  Their shirts are well priced, ranging from $15 to $26.  They also carry pjs as well as shirts for men, children and dogs (It is called Crazy Dog!!)  Their shirts are a great idea for holiday gifts, gag gifts, or just an ordinary hey-you-need-clothes kind of thing.  Funny, modern, well fitting, made out of a comfortable material, and affordable.. Yep, I really like this company. :)

Have any of you guys tried Crazy Dog's products before?  If so, how did you like them?  If not, what is your favorite shirt from them?

**I received a complementary t-shirt from Crazy Dog Tees in order to write a real and honest review. I did not get paid for this post. All opinions are my own, unless otherwise stated.**
